Studio Art A - Fall Semester Grade Level 9-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: students with a strong interest in art.
1st 10 weeks - Drawing
Focused drawing projects for the beginning studio artist in a variety of media.
2nd 20 weeks - Painting
Several projects exploring the fundamental identifications of painting includes realism, expressionism, and abstraction, projects exploring light as color and color as the reflection of light. Supporting slides and lectures will be an integral part of the course when needed.

Studio Art B - Spring Semester Grade Level 9-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Studio Art A
1st 10 weeks - Printing
Process oriented projects. An introduction to linoleum, monotype and 5 color registration silk screen will be explored, their process investigated and their products examined.
2nd 10 weeks - Ceramics
An introduction to the technical language as well as the functions of clay in each of its’ successive stages. Several ceramic projects dealing with the 3-D qualities of art are required.

Studio in Product Design Grade Level 10-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Studio Art
Each student will become aware of what Product Design is. Each student should become aware of the aesthetic involved in the product design and develop necessary skills to creatively express a product design as well as develop an appreciation for product design.

Advertising in Design Grade Level 10-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Studio Art
Each student will become aware of the many examples all around him or her. Each student will develop specific skills and techniques involved in the production of an ad. Each student will become familiar with advertising design history.

Studio in Drawing Grade Level 10-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Studio Art
Each student will understand drawing as the basic discipline to art. Students will recognize drawing as it occurs in their immediate environment and learn how this can be a resource for drawing. Each student will learn methods of criticism; will understand that self-criticism and constructive criticism plays an important role in their artistic growth. Each student will learn the technical information supported by daily drawing exercises in a variety of drawing media.

Studio in Painting Grade Level 10-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Studio Art
Each student will develop an understanding of painting as a craft, an art form and ancient as well as contemporary form of expression. Students will develop an understanding of painting as a field of historical study apart from all others. Students will explore the mechanical elements of painting. Each student will appreciate the aesthetic of painting and understand that art history is a field of study.

Studio in Photo l Grade Level 11-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Studio Art
Each student will acquire an appreciation of photography and become familiar with photographic techniques. Students will learn to use light as a form of artistic expression and observe photography as an art form. Students will be exposed to safety precautions and will acquire a critical eye through participation in photography critiques.

Photography ll Grade Level 11-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Photo l
Each student will continue to use the photography skills from Photo 1 in their pursuit and understanding of the following exercises.
1. poly contrast paper and filters
2. burn and dodging photographs
3. still life composition
4. composition using the grid.
Each student will be aware of the safety precautions necessary in the dark room for the development process.

Studio in Graphics Grade Level 10-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Studio Art
Each student will understand the general methods of printing as: relief, intaglio, screen, lithography, and photographic printing. Each student will understand the specifics of each general printing area, will master techniques and skills associated with the specific printing process and will understand the heritage of printmaking as it applies to different cultures.

Studio in Sculpture Grade Level 10-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Studio Art
Each student will understand the general areas of sculpture and investigate them through specific sculpture processes. Students will become familiar with sculpture techniques and materials, will develop a vocabulary of sculpture, and will be able to seek out sculpture either inside or outside the immediate community. Students will appreciate the differences in sculpture as it varies from culture to culture.

Studio in Ceramics Grade Level 10-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Studio Art
This course is divided into decorative ceramics and useful ceramics such as pottery. In both students will be exposed to the technical aspects of ceramics: common day tools, characteristics of clay and components of glazes. Students will observe how ceramics are used in their own and foreign cultures.

Computer Art Grade Level 10-12 Credit ½
Prerequisite: Studio Art
Working in a Macintosh lab, students will become familiar with computer programs supported by the advertising industry, such as a Photo Shop, Quark-Express Adobe Illustrator. The semester will be structured into investigative projects, culminating in a document using all three programs.

Exploring Visual Arts 7 th GRADE ART ELECTIVE Mrs. Wentland
In Exploring Visual Arts, students will explore the Visual Arts above and beyond what is covered in Art 7. Students will learn to respect others’ ways of thinking, working, and expressing themselves through Art. They will also be using the arts to problem solve, make decisions, and take a look at the influence of the arts in the world. Finally, students will communicate their thoughts and feelings in a variety of ways.
