OCCUPATIONAL CENTER PROGRAM OFFERINGS FOR

JUNIORS AND SENIORS

 

Automotive Technology Grade Level 10-11 Credit2 ½ - 3 ½

 

Through the operations of a full time service and repair shop, supplemented by troubleshooting laboratory generated scenarios, students learn all aspects of vehicle repair, diagnosis, and maintenance. A fully equipped shop serves as a training ground for preparation to work as technicians! Students from this program are prepared for employment and further study at the college level; college credits are available to those who enter college.

 

 

Barbering Grade Level 10-11 Credit2 ½ - 3 ½

 

This 500-hour course is designed to prepare students in the art of barbering including shaving, trimming, hair care, and scalp care. An extreme shortage of barbers currently exists.

 

 

 

 

Building Trades Grade Level 10-11 Credit2 ½ - 3 ½

 

Students will experience a comprehensive survey of the building trades through such topics as Industry and Site Safety Regulations, Design and Layout, Masonry and Concrete, Residential Carpentry, Residential Electrical Systems, Residential Plumbing Systems, Prefabrication and Modular Concepts. Energy-Efficient Construction Techniques, Contemporary Materials, and Equipment. Through both on-site and remote location projects, graduates will be prepared for direct entry into both the workforce and pos-secondary programs.

 

 

Cosmetology and Spa Services Grade Level 10-11 Credit2 ½ - 3 ½

 

Students will learn all aspects of the personal enhancement field, including hair care, coloring, and styling, nail care and art, facial and skin care, and business practices. Jobs are plentiful in this field in our area and a state-of-the-industry salon prepares students to be successful after graduation. Students are required to complete 1,000 hours to be licensed in New York State as a cosmetologist.

 

 

Culinary Arts Grade Level 10-11 Credit2 ½ - 3 ½

 

Students enrolled in this program learn both back and front of the house skills and procedures. Students operate a real restaurant, which will include a trellis cafe called the Cafe Bonita. Students learn not only food preparation and presentation, but also menu design, wine selection, and proper serving practices. Students also learn ice carving design and techniques; and have the option of pursuing a baking and pastry specialty.

 

 

Early Childhood Grade Level 10-11 Credit 2 ½ - 3 ½

and Adolescent Parenting

 

Early Childhood is a program designed to provide a very strong knowledge in how children learn and develop from infancy through age five. Students in this program will combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience to learn how to provide developmentally appropriate programs for children of all ages. Students will gain daily practical experience by operating a full-time, on site day care facility. This program will prepare students for 4-year college admission, 2-year college admission and to work as Child Care Providers, Elementary and Nursery School Teaching Assistants, Day Care Administrative Assistants and Special Education Assistants.

 

Equipment Operation Grade Level 10-11 Credit 2 ½ - 3 ½

and Repair

 

Designed to take students through the operation and repair of both small and large engine machines, this class also incorporates landscaping and design into its curriculum. Students receive extensive, hands-on-training on equipment including bulldozers, back hoes, track loaders, dump trucks, and farm equipment.

 

 

Esthetician Grade Level 10-11 Credit 2 ½ - 3 ½

 

This600-hour course is designed for students interested in specializing only in the aspect of skin care and preservation. Make-up artistry, facial, aroma therapy, and waxing are elements of the preparation for the state licensure exam, which prepares students to work in salons as well as health care facilities.

 

 

Health Occupations Grade Level 10-11 Credit 2 ½ - 3 ½

 

This is an excellent program option for students interested in any health related field or career. This program consists of a combination of theoretical and clinical settings. All students will study and receive strong knowledge of the human anatomy Physiology, Personal Health and Wellness, Introductory Psychology and the Human Life Cycle. All students have the opportunity to earn college credit as well as First Aid and CPR Certifications and Licensure as Certified Nurse Assistants. This is an excellent new program offered to provide options for career mobility and preparation for further study at the college level.

 

Information Technology Grade Level 10-11 Credit 2 ½ - 3 ½

 

Students leaving this program are prepared to work as office personnel or continue their studies in college. Up-to-date technology supports learning and only current software is applied. Students are prepared to function in a multiple of office settings and in any number of capacities. This course is also designed for the student interested in computer programming and network design and maintenance, this class targets a very technically oriented population. Students are trained to work as computer technicians, troubleshooters, and can earn network-administering certification upon completion of the program.

 

 

 

Nail Technician Grade Level 10-11 Credit2 ½ - 3 ½

This 250-hour course designed for students interested in nail technology only, this course is often chosen by students who want the means to earn money while in college or while paying for further training as a cosmetologist. The nail industry is an $8 billion dollar industry in our country!

 

 

New Visions Medical Grade Level 10-11 Credit 2 ½ - 3 ½

 

This program provides students with the training and experiences that facilitate the learning of information management functions and activities of systems operations with an emphasis on computer science. It is designed for the very technically oriented students interested in managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computers, designing and maintaining networks, and computer programming. Students receive practice in problem solving methods and troubleshooting techniques to resolve information management and systems operation problems from the simple to the complex while also developing the good worker traits that determine success in the work place.

 

Visual Communication Grade Level 10-11 Credit 2 ½ - 3 ½

This two-year program was created in response to a growing demand for students with strong digital imaging skills, highly refined design sensitivities and the ability to visualize concepts. Students in this program explore all forms of digital media as well as traditional imaging techniques to become creative and skilled multimedia designers. They gain experience in concept development, design development, digital sound, animation, interactivity, programming, digital photography and video, multimedia project development and digital imaging. Students also explore gaming, entertainment multimedia, virtual reality, and other facets of new media. Students prepare and deliver projects executed in all of the major media, including CD-ROM, DVD , and the Web.
