MCS winter Concerts 2023

MCS Students Shine in Winter Concert Series

Over December 13th & 14th, 2023, over 150 musicians demonstrated their talents from their General Music, Chorus, and Instrumental Music programs for their family, friends, peers, staff members, and other community members.

The Pre-K and Kindergarten musicians demonstrated play-based music learning with General and Vocal music teacher Jenna Hall Tucker, while 1st & 2nd grade students had fun performing repertoire including vocal Jazz with General and Instrumental music teacher Jen Sobas. 3rd graders performed a song they wrote in music class about the"Snowy Mountains" in which they live, while 4th and 5th grade students combined their efforts to sing, dance, and play instruments to sea shantey music.

The Elementary performance ensembles showcased their abilities with excellent intonation, discipline, and enthusiasm in both the band and chorus. The elementary band's "Popcorn" performance was particularly memorable, as was the Chorus's original composition of "The Best Part of Wintertime," which featured 5th grade student Patrick McLaughlin as a soloist.

Thursday's evening concert featured our very talented middle and high school band and chorus members, with both ensembles sharing music they've had a hand in selecting. The MCS band continued their yearly tradition of playing "Sleigh Ride," among other song selections that are meaningful to the students; their finale of "Dark Fortress" was suggested by a fellow student, and was an exciting way to end the band's portion of the program.

The large audience stayed to enjoy the MCS Choruses performing repertoire the students selected, which ranged from folk song arrangements in French and Spanish to powerful and uplifting songs such as "Seize the Day," and "Climb Higher." Soloists Olivia Wells, Yamilet Perez, and Isaac Romero shined at the microphone during "This is Me," from The Greatest Showman.

The evening concluded with a festive reception and celebration in the cafeteria hosted by Joan Lawrence-Bauer.
