Dear MCS School Community,
We want to take a moment to address the recent Board of Education election and provide a brief update.
As previously shared, there was a ballot irregularity involving the placement of candidate names. In response, the district filed an official appeal with the Commissioner of Education and we are currently awaiting a decision. We do not have the authority to call for a reelection, only the Commissioner can call for a reelection.
While we had hoped to receive a response before the Board’s annual reorganization meeting on July 2, we have not yet received guidance from the State. In accordance with legal timelines and district responsibilities, we must proceed by seating the candidates who received the highest number of votes in the June election.
Should the Commissioner issue a ruling that impacts this outcome, we will act accordingly and keep our community fully informed.
Thank you for your understanding, support, and continued engagement in our school community.
Sincerely,
Michelle Osterhoudt
Superintendent of Schools
