Officer Neumuth presenting to students

On Wednesday afternoon, June 3, students in grades 6–10 participated in an important internet safety presentation led by New York State Trooper Timothy Neumuth. During the grade-level sessions, students explored how their choices online and in person can impact themselves and others.

Trooper Neumuth discussed a variety of topics, including responsible gaming interactions, the spread and impact of gossip and rumors, the power of language, and the consequences of using inappropriate or harmful words to describe others. Students learned how information shared online can quickly spread, how incomplete information can lead to misunderstandings, and why it is important to think critically before repeating or sharing information.

Students were also joined by Health Teacher Tracy Reither, who helped connect the presentation topics to ongoing discussions taking place in health classes. These connections reinforced the importance of respectful communication, healthy relationships, and responsible decision-making both online and offline.

The presentation encouraged students to consider how their words and actions affect others, verify information before sharing it, and contribute positively to their school community. This educational opportunity supports the district's ongoing commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
