On Friday, October 9, 2026, Margaretville Central School staff participated in a full day of professional learning, collaboration, and planning during Superintendent’s Conference Day. While students were away, staff made the most of this dedicated time to strengthen their skills, review student data, refine instructional practices, and plan for continued student success.

Throughout the day, staff engaged in professional development tailored to their individual roles and responsibilities. Teachers and support staff collaborated on curriculum development, assessment practices, early learning resources, student support services, and strategies to meet the diverse needs of our students.

Throughout the day, staff focused on projects and learning opportunities directly connected to their work with students. Elementary staff reviewed resources from the New York State Office of Early Learning and continued developing plans and protocols to support the needs of our youngest learners. Teachers worked on student data folders, classroom assessments, grading, and instructional materials to better monitor progress and personalize learning. The English Language Arts team focused on organizing and differentiating instructional resources. School counselors participated in dedicated planning time, and staff responsible for CSE, Section 504, and DASA reviewed data and considered next steps for supporting students. Social Studies teachers reviewed the Grades 6–8 curriculum, explored opportunities to incorporate local history, updated instructional resources, and planned for the Seal of Civic Readiness. Additional work included planning for the Seal of Biliteracy and strengthening classroom practices through targeted professional learning.

Sessions also focused on strengthening literacy instruction through The Writing Revolution, which emphasizes explicit writing strategies that help students organize their thinking and communicate their understanding across subject areas. Aides and teaching assistants participated in a CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) refresher training focused on strategies for preventing and responding to challenging behaviors while maintaining a safe, supportive environment for students and staff.

In addition to on-campus professional learning, several MCS educators participated in professional development and collaborative meetings at other locations. These opportunities included the Music Educators’ Conference at Oneida High School, Teaching Beyond the Screen at Oneonta, a Physical Education Professional Learning Community meeting at South Kortright, business education collaboration in Roxbury, and New York State Science Learning Standards professional development at South Kortright. These experiences allowed staff to connect with colleagues from other districts, exchange ideas, and bring new strategies and resources back to MCS.

The day reflected the hard work and dedication of the MCS team. The time invested in professional learning, thoughtful reflection, and collaboration helps ensure that our staff continue to grow as educators and that students benefit from meaningful, engaging, and responsive instruction.
