Last night students Alani Mendez and Hunter Balcom were officially sworn in as Ex-Officio Student Board Members!
On September 5, 2024, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed into law the requirement that all boards of education designate at least one student as an ex officio, non-voting member of their boards of education.
After learning about this new law in their social studies classes, Alani and Hunter reached out to superintendent Osterhoudt inquiring about becoming members.
Although the law doesn't require boards to comply until July 1, 2025, the board and the superintendent agreed that it would be excellent to have student voice on the board!
Welcome "aboard" Alani and Hunter!

Miller and Matthew making their rounds collecting recyclables after school! Thanks, guys!
Much appreciated!
