Dear Margaretville Families and Community, We want to provide you with an important update regarding the social media threat that impacted our school today. After a thorough investigation that began in the early morning hours and continued into the afternoon, the individual responsible for making the threat has been located and identified. All necessary appropriate actions within the scope of the law have been addressed and the district is taking appropriate steps in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct to address the incident. We are deeply grateful for the swift and diligent work of the New York State Police and their partnership throughout the investigation. Their efforts played a critical role in resolving this matter and helping us return to a sense of safety and calm. We recognize that today’s events caused fear, frustration, and uncertainty for many in our school community. We also understand that the limited information we were able to share during the investigation may have added to that stress. Please know that this was necessary to maintain the integrity of the investigation and to ensure everyone’s safety. We appreciate those who came forward to report their concerns. We encourage all students, staff, families, and community members to continue reporting any safety concerns directly to school officials or by using the anonymous Sandy Hook Say Something hotline. Phone: 1-844-5-SAYNOW (1-844-572-9669) Website: www.saysomething.net We thank our students, staff, and law enforcement for their cooperation in ensuring the continued safety of our school community. With appreciation, The Margaretville Central School District Administrative Team

Brooklyn teacher, Jeanne Salchli and I are on our 8th year of participating in a Green Connections partnership where we have been facilitating exchanges between upstate and Brooklyn students providing a unique opportunity for students to grow academically, social-emotionally and civically by fostering mutual understanding of each other, each other’s ways of life, and the two contrasting, yet interconnected environments in which they live. The goal of the Green Connections programs is to meaningfully connect students from NYC and the NYC Watershed through personal communication and shared experiences with NYC water supply system from forest to tap. In October, 5th grade went to NYC to meet their pen-pals for the first time. Students had the opportunity to experience riding a fairy boat to Governor's Island and then sailing on the historic Schooner, around the Statue of Liberty. Last week, Brooklyn students came upstate to visit us. We toured the Pepacton Reservoir and studied water and nature all around us. Students were able to experience first hand the importance of taking care of the very water they drink. It was an amazing experience for all, and we look forward to doing this all over again next year.

On May 28th, the Life Skills Class took a field trip to the VIA Aquarium, followed by a game of bowling, and topping it off with a stop at the Deli for ice cream. A fun educational day in which students learned about the numerous varieties of fish and where they live, and how to bowl.

Yesterday, Mrs. Pacheco's 2nd Grade Class invited students, teachers, and parents to visit their Animal Kingdom. This was a cross curricular project where students chose an animal to research. They not only researched information about their animals but, they made a diorama habitat, a mural, and a clay animal. In addition to their research they included an opinion piece and 2 poems. They did an outstanding job!

STEM FAIR 2025 Congratulations to all MCS students who participated in this year’s STEM Fair! The event featured STEM projects from students in grades K–8. The objective of the fair was to bring together students’ work to showcase their hard work and creativity to the community. Four judges circulated throughout the gym to evaluate the projects. They focused on three key areas: Presentation, Project Goal, and Creativity. Students in grades 3–6 were eligible for the Above and Beyond Award, Unique Award, and Creativity Award. Grade 8 was eligible for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place certificates. Students in grades 7 & 8 competed for cash prizes, generously sponsored by Titan Drilling Corporation and Freshtown: 1st Place: $25.00 2nd Place: $15.00 3rd Place: $10.00 The Big Question: Why is STEM So Important? The Why: STEM learning provides students with hands-on experiences using a variety of tools and materials, preparing them to quickly adapt to new technologies and ideas. This adaptability is a critical skill for the jobs of the future. As educators, it is essential to embrace up-to-date technology in the classroom. Doing so helps equip students with the tools they need to navigate complex situations and make informed decisions. In short, STEM education empowers students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in our ever-changing world. Stay tuned for future STEM events in the upcoming school year! Today, the 3rd grade released our Painted Lady butterflies to their new homes. Starting in April, we had 10 caterpillars which turned into 9 chrysalis. We watched them feed and grow (quickly!) and then all but one completed the metamorphic process. Then, after just 7 days we arrived to see 7 beautiful and strong fliers! The release was fun, although the little guys didn't want to leave us! 3rd grade enjoys this Science standard and kit every year!

Mrs. Balch’ pre-k has been observing caterpillars go through metamorphosis and become beautiful painted lady butterflies. From caterpillars to very fat caterpillars to chrysalis into butterflies, it has been an amazing experience. Today we released five painted lady butterflies into nature and one of our favorite Pre-k memories!!
