Thank you, Fortissimo supporters! With the funds raised at our one-and-only annual music fundraiser and a matching grant from the O'Connor Foundation, MCS Varsity Chorus members (and a few more music council members) enjoyed a day in NYC to see HAMILTON at the Richard Rogers Theater. This will go down in the books as one of our most memorable moments at MCS, for sure!

Celebration time! MCS musicians from grades 5-12 have SO MUCH to be proud of from their individual performances at this weekend's NYSSMA solo festival in Norwich. 16 vocalists and instrumentalists have been working all school year and honing their skills with instrumental substitute teachers Pam West-Finkle & Rick Eleck and vocal music teacher Jenna Tucker to independently perform a challenging solo of their choosing from one of six difficulty levels. Students are then asked to "sight read" and perform a small piece of music they've never seen before without assistance. All of this is done in a new environment in front of a judge This opportunity helps students develop musically, but it also helps develop confidence, resilience, the ability to accept critical feedback, and presentation skills that are so useful for all academic work and future job interviews as much as they are useful for musical development. Our MCS students ALL have some great successes to claim! Matthew Greene, Everley Marks, Jack Mead, and Danielle Sanford all celebrated big accomplishments and scores to be proud of with their instrumental solos (Matthew even had two!) Vocal musicians Vivian Faraci, Caydence Fronckowiak, Georgia Grocholl, Rylie Hougen, Tessa Marks, Aurora Maxim, Sayge McDermott, Maci Montminy, Stella Sines, and Sadie Smith all delivered their personal-best performances and brought home "outstanding" and "excellent" ratings. Danielle Sanford also claimed a huge accomplishment in earning a PERFECT SCORE on her level-three performance (on top of also performing a clarinet solo!) Julia Balcom Salazar and Alani Mendez both earned 99 out of 100 on level 6 vocal solos; these are scores that would qualify them for All-State-Chorus consideration if they were age-eligible! Congratulations to ALL our outstanding musicians! Special thanks to all the helpers on the big day: *MCS Board of Ed member Kent Brown for piano accompaniment for all our vocalists *Rebecca McDermott for being a chaperone superhero *Kyle Holden for driving our crew *Jeremey Marks for coming to the rescue during our departure *Classroom teachers and Joy Holden for supporting and accommodating these students' music lesson schedules.

Mrs. Pacheco's 2nd grade class had a very "Eggciting" week. We hatched 7 chicks in our classroom and we also took a trip to the Bronx Zoo. There has been a lot of hands-on learning happening.

Teacher: A multi-tasking educational rockstar who lives to inspire and loves to encourage. They're kind of a big deal.

Earlier this week, 10th and 11th grade students visited Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Science, and Maria College! Students were exposed to health science courses, and what equipment they would encounter! Students also explored the campuses, admissions process, how to plan for the cost of college, and what to expect living on campus!
